UNIONISTS DEFEAT LABOURITES. Press Association.—Telegraph—Copyright Received October 22, 5.35 a.m. CAPETOWN, October 21. General Smuts. Messrs Sampson (Labourite Whip), Abe Bailey, and Fitzpatrick have been elected. Mr Cresswell was defeated at two places, and Messrs Poutsma and Andrews were also defeated. Mr Serfohtetifi, a Nationalist, who was imprisoned during the rebellion, was elcCtctd for Kroonstad. defeating Mr Deivit, Minister for 1 Justice. Mr J. B. ‘Robinson, an Independent, was elected for Randfonteinl Sir A. Harris, an Indepbudent,'fof >Beaconsfield. and Sir C. : Crowe, Unionist,, for East London. General- Botha’t nominee for Potchefstroom, where the rebellion .was hatched, was elected by a thrCe to brio majority. A striking is that in the urban centrot there were large Unionist majorities over the Labourites, and also at Pretoria. There' was heavy polling throughout the Union. In Durban, Mr Keutridge, a Labourite, defeated Mr Kenwooa, Unionist, for Durban Central.
