LATE LOCALS.

Tho member for AA’anganui has been in communication with the Lands Department and was assurred yesterday that the amount of £SOO which Mr. Massey promised him he would give to the River Trust to clear the river of the blocks caused by the recent flood would bo available at a very early date. AA’e have much pleasure in acknowledging receipt of cheque for £1 os 9d received from Air Furrie, on behalf of the various winners of prizes at the Victoria Avenue School sports. This amount was voluntarily handed over to Mr Furrie by the children concerned for the New Zealand Wounded Fund, instead of spending it in the purchase of prizes. Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P., visited Trenthara camp yesterday and found it greatly improved since he was last there, a number of new hutments have been built, new roads formed, and a general clearing up has, he says, given the place quite a clean and healthy appearance. Ho met a number of the Wanganui soldiers who asked him to express their thanks to those AVangamii people who have sent gifts through the Patriotic Committee . We ha ve to acknowledge tho receipt of a copy of an interesting and novel piece of music, entitled “Dorothy’s Prayer,” both words and music being specially composed by Mr C. W. Ciaytou, and intended by the author for peace celebrations on tho termination of the present deplorable war. The leading musical authority in New Zealand, commenting on it. says: “Tho idea is a novel one. and the simplicity of the prayer and the music is beautiful, and what a composition of the kind should be.” The music is printed on cards published at fid each, and may ho procured through any book or music seller, or wholesale from the autho;.
