Amusements, Meetings, Etc.

A THEILLING WAR DRAMA. AT HIS MAJESTY’S TO-NIGHT. Vivid battle scenes are portrayed in the London Film Company’s big star drama, “1914,” or “Scotland For King and Country.” The film was introduced at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, and was witnessed by a big audience. It is a story of war and the red ruin of desolation that follows the-entry of the German Army into a small, state. From Scotland the story runs to the firing line in France. Special attention has been paid to the fighting scenes and good views of trench warfare are featured in the production. A Keystone comedy, featuring Syd. Chaplin, figures' on, the programme under the title of “That Springtime Feeling,” and there is a charming scenic, “Village and Wood,” by the Hepworth Company. This week’s edition of the Gaumont Graphic contains view's of the anti-German demonstration in London, the military sports at Chelsea, the effect of the Zepnclin raid on Eamsgate, the Serbians digging trenches, the Swiss army guarding the Swiss-German frontiers, as well as other interesting topical views. A fascinating Vitagraph drama, “The Mystery of Brayton Court,’’ and a brace of comics, “He Couldn’t Explain,” and “Spoof for Oof,” also finds a place in this first-class programme, which will be repeated to-night. Seats may he reserved at Allden’s Book Store, Avenue. Mr. Geo. Clapliam will sing the new soldiers’ song, entitled, “Oh, Are You the O’Ecilly,” which the war correspondents says has completely wiped out “Tipperary.” It is being sung by the Tommies along the 400 miles of battle front, and its humour and music are so infectious that the French soldiers are also singing it in their native tongue.
