MARTON J..C. SPRING MEETING. • By “ACHILLES.”: The spring meeting of the above club will be held to-morrow, when some fine racing should be witnessed. The. fields promise to be good, and the .course is said to be in capital condition, SecretaryWay has all tho arrangements well in hand, and the programme should be got through without any hitch. A special excursion train will leave Wanganui for Marten at 9 a.m. on the morning of both meetings, leaving Marton on tho return journey at 6 p.m., and no doubt .i large contingent of Wanganui sportsmen will be in attendance. Racing will open with the Hack Hurdles, for which 17 have accepted. Ruatahgata, St, Gate, and Toreador arc amongst those likely to be well hacked. There are 17 in the Maiden, in which Ganger Signal, Vladian, and Moutoa Queen should run well. In tiro Railway Handicap there arc some speedy' ■'ones■ engaged in Crown Pearl, Rangitero, and Pcronilla. Calais looked well at Wavcrley, and may shape all the better for tho racing there. Tho, Marton Handicap promises to bo a fine race, as the 14 left in include Haskayne, Lady Louisa, Mummer, Master Lupin, Rod Book, and Fortify, all of which wil] have supporters. Fortify is in great trim, and should put up a ;ood performance, while Master Lupin is. also in splendid fettle. In tho Electric, Tangihau, Botanist, and Jean Laddo read well, though Interlude would only need to he at her best to run very prominently. Both Steeplechases should be interesting. Merry Lad and Captain McKay (in the Hack) and Rufus and Rangimaru in the Hunt Club look to be nicely treated. There will bo, a big field: in the Tutaenui Welter, in which Iceberg is sure to be well supported onhis Waverley running, and Welcome Nugget should also be all the better for the race there.
