Shown an English newspaper despatch after attending tho Progressive meeting, Mr Roosevelt, commenting on Savage Lanclor’s renewed attempts to discredit tho discovery of the new South American river, said: “Landor is a perfectly preposterous absurdity. No serious scientist thinks of attempting to accept him as anything more than a buffoon as an explorer.”
