TRADE UNION CONGRESS.
DEPUTATION TO MR. ASQUITH
PrcM Association.—Telegraph.—Copyright LONDON, February 15.
Tbs Parliamentary Committee of the Trade Union Congress deputationised the Right Hon. H. H. Asquith to urge the nationalisation of railways and the introduction of women’s suffrage. Mr Asquith, in his reply, stated that the acquisition of the railways would inevitably be followed by a demand for the reduction of fares and rates, and a request by employees for shorter hours and increased wages. A royal commission was inquiring into the question, and the ultimate determination might well be left until the report was presented. He declined to introduce a Suffrage Bill.
