It is rumoured that all is not well with Pos illion, and that he may not be a . starter in the Flying at Wanganui next week. Even if the son of 'Advance is unable j : start, the Forded stable should be ! worthily represented by Sunbird, who can ; gallop very fast when in the humour, and ■ , with 6.10 looks to hj i vc a chance. 1 Blackall, by All Black (imp.)—La Notto, I is striding .‘.along' nicely in his work at I Hastings, and will probably make bis | debut at Wanganui next month. ; The F.gniont Racing Chib made a profit ■ of about if! 1000 over their recent summer ■ meeting. >
Goldfhidor, who has boon prevented from, racing' for some time past, on ac- . count of, uhsouridriess, is expected to make his reappearance under sjlk before the present season is ThUclr older. .The value of the Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase has been raised to 40110 sovs, including a cup worth 125 rovs, out of which 430(1 goes to the second and .4*15!) to the third horse. The race therefore ranks an easy first as the most valuable handicap cross-country event in the world, Its value, moreover, exceeds that of airy handicap flat race outside of Australia. Entries from Canada, France, America, and Austria are said to be assured. The Traquair filly Ventura, -which has been on the retired list for some months owing .to air injury to her back, lias rejoined ,T. .Quinlivan’s active brigade. Football' and Downham, two other members of Quinlivan’s team that have recently rcsiinied work, are both looking well. ■ t !The two-ycar-bld Good-night, an- ; other (if Qninlivau’s charges, which wont, amis; l on the eve of the A.li.C; Summer Meeting, has made' a good recovery from the mishap which brought about his retirement, but will be added to the list -'before being put into work again. Luke Wilson, who was laid up for some time with a sore throat, is-now convalescent. Wilson ■ is likely ,to have a busy time this season, as he is doing the riding on both' Mr F, J. Watt’s and Mr G. L. Stead’s horses when the weights suit, and will also, when available, have the mount on V. C'ollotlo's team. Sir Knox has been a disappointing 'horse this .season, but may imiko amend? in the Wanganui Cup, in which he is nicely treated with ,7.9, It. Berry will i probably have the mount- on the Sir Laddo horse. H. Eva, the well-known Haweva trainer, has two exceptionally hue 2-year-olds in .training. . in. Miss Fisher (Maniapoto—Dear Dcllyi and fehandon Bells (Campfire—Sister Frances). The
latter is engaged in the Juvenile Handicap Imre, and the half-sister to Ladv Mcnschikoff is expected to make, a,good showing. Miss Fishor'is a very big two-year-old, and looks like one that should bo able to gallop very fast, but lias been up about a month only,, and will take some time. ( . ■
Tiresome Allegation. Huffy, and Centenary, four of Mr E. W. Alison’s horses, have arrived in AVangunub They are all looking in capital nick, .particularly the ■two former. It is said that Tiresom ' had a rough trip down from Onchunga, and that this prevented her from showing heMicst form at Now Plymouth. Her connections arc understood .to be very confident that silo will repeat her last year's victory in the Wanganui Cup. Allegation, aha! looks very fit, and thoro are, quite a number of good judges to be found who fancy his chance in the (hip more than his stable mate’s. However. Allegation is engaged in the Stewards', and it may be he will be started in that event in preference to the Cup, in which the stable apparently prefer Tirosome’s prospects. Tim, WnngifUUi Jockey Club’s racc.WMU’Se is looking at its very best just HOW, tllO recOilt, rains having freshened the grass Up splendidly, and taken all the sting, out of the going, .which should lie first-class for the Cup meeting next week. The lawns, too. arc in capital order,, and everything promises to be just A 1 for the gathering, which gives very indication of being a most successful one from every point of vifHv. The saneorising work doin' at the top bend has improved tile track irllrilOnsely, find there should be no troubje in negotiating the bend now, though previously the going there was not too .good, owing to there being a drop outwards from the rails which caused horses to run out. Now there is a. slope in towards the rails and this should prevent any trouble there. The hill which existed at the six furlong post lias also been removed, and the Hack Welled down, a cutting about th ree feet deep having been made. This should prove a big improvement, especially .to the starts made from this point. Formerly the barrier was night on the crown of the hdl, (Ultl the horses’ hind feet stood Oii tile downward slope, leading to, a’good .deal of slipping hack at tile jump off-. Thiswill be obviated now, bv the improvements FafiTofl out, and the going fight vciUbd that bend should be really excellent, so well has the work bei'n carried out. The Summer Meeting 1 of the Woodvillc Jockey Club takes place Oil Wednesday and Thursday iiekti .
Wallace YOUiig, who has just finished a twelve months’ period of disqualification, has agsrin* been a license by the Wanganui Committee, and wall be in the saddle at Woodvillo.
Lord Lupin, tho winner of the Stewards’ and the Grandstand liaiidlciitis lit the Taranaki Mfctiiig, is if WOll-br.ea five-year-old horse by Lupin—Torlda, by Torped— Streamlet, by by Javelin— Cascades, by SicdmOrO—WiltiH'vvitcll, by t'lVnld6ir—Melrnaid (iraii.). Leonta, trained by F. Tilley, at Fordo!!, is shortly to be tried over fences. Mescal, from the same stable, is also to join the ranks of the jumpers. Mr J. B, Rfid'a three-year-old colt Rinaldi’:, by Charlemagne ll—Dementer, biU; been troubled for some time with a large swelling in his throat. Some difference of opinion existed as to the nature, of the affection, but it was eventually diagnosed as being the outcome of strangles. The swelling was .lanced last week, and was found to be full of pus, which is now discharging freely. ; Rina Ido htts been kept in sleady work all the time, ■so it is Oyident that M, Hobbs is anxioUs to have him as well as, possible for important events still to be decided this season. ■
