. COALING OPERATIONS. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 24.; 1 Coaling operations on H.M.S. New Zealand were carried out with remarkable despatch. Work was commenced at 9 a.m. on Monday, and the .actual time worked rip to this morning, allowing three hours for intervals and delays, was 13 hours 10 minutes. In that period 2728 tons were taken aboard from the collier, and stored away in the warship’s bunkers, making an average per. hour of 207.25 tons. This is looked upon as an excellent record by the ship’s officers. Since leaving England, the New Zealand has been 85 days at sea, has steamed 19,216 miles, aud has coaled nine times, taking a total of 16,613 tons. 1
COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS WELLINGTON, Juno 24, Tho medals which ’ have been struck to the order of the Government to commemorate the .visit of the battleship New Zealand were despatched to Captain Halsey to-day for delivery to tho officers and crew. The number of medals struck was 850, of which 810 have been' sent to Captain Halsey. Tho remaining forty will be presented to tfie Museums and to. the people who were connected l with the, reception of tho ship. \ Captain Halsey and his officers have offered to present to the people of Jtho Dominion the very fine model of the New Zealand which was so much- admired by all visitors to the battleship. The Government has accepted the offer, aud the model will be placed either in Parliament Buildings or in the Dominion Museum.
