Mr Hordmau, Minister of Justice, interviewed on the subject of tho reported discontent in the police force, declared that if the state of affairs at Auckland, as reported in the local papers, is true, then the position is serious, and will necessitate firm handling immediately. “I cannot understand tho prevent alleged unrest,” ho said. "I don’t believe it is widespread. From what has appeared in the Press, I gather that Mr Rosser, well known in Auckland Labour circles, has been getting in touch with the junior men with a view of forming •in association. 1 may Bay at once that this sort of thing will not bo tolerated. In the event of a labour trouble happening, tho police mint be under the direct control of tho Commissioner and tho Government, so I shall not permit any Lalxmr loader to interfere with tho discipline. of tho force. Every facility will and has been given to the force to state grievances, but rebellion will not be put up with.”
