WEATHER CLEARING. Received March 1, 10.6 a.m. SYDNEY, March 1. The weather is clearing. PHENOMENAL DOWNPOUR. Extensive Damage. Received March 1, 10.5 a.m. SYDNEY, March 1. Yesterday’s rain storm was extremely violent, 416 points falling in a few hours. For a portion of the time it fell at the rate of five inches per hour. All thoroughfares converging were converted into raging torrents. The damage is^extenaiye. & passenger on a tram at Darlinghurst w'as struck by lightning and knocked off the car, and suffered severely from shock. ..By a cloudburst at Capertree, nearLith. gow, 1000 tons of rock were washed off the mountain side and blocked the railways and roads. Trucks and coal skips were buried or swept away, the floors of houses covered with silt to a depth of several feet, and two bridges carried away.
