The ligur-s, however, may bo taken as substantially correct. Comparing the grain and gyi;g-: crops with the returns of two yeas ago, both show a largo decrease this year. This can lie accounted for bv the drought peri; need in several parts of New Zealand hist summer, and by the increase of dairying and of sheep fanning. The principal decreases are in Canterbury and Otago, where the drought was very p>cve v o and the turnip and other crops were in many lastands total failures. In grain crops it will be noticed that whilst there is an Increase in area under wheat amounting La 81,859 acres, oats; on the other hand sdiow the very large decrease of 133,557 -ic-vc;,.
