FIRES

AT DUNEDIN. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, July 5. This evening a fuc occurred in Laidlaw and Gray’s ironmongery premises and Taylor’s hosiery shop, in the heart of a large block of buildings in Rattray Street. After an hour’s hard work* the brigade succeeded in getting the outbreak under control, effecting an excellent save of valuable, premises adjoining. Laidlaw and Gray’s stock was damaged to the extent of about .£4OOO, while Taylor's stock and fittings were completely ruined. Laidlaw and Gray are insured in the Guardian office for .£9OOO, and Taylor in the Commercial Union for .£SOO. Both buildings are owned by Laidlaw, and are insured in the Standard office for about £2500.
