A SNUB FOR DR. VALINTINE.
PECULIAR ATTITUDE OF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.
(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 5. At a meeting of the Hospital Board a letter was read from Dr. Valintine in r* gard to the selection by the Board of Miss Grilfilhs, of Ducudiu, as lady suiK»rintcndeul, staling that, the Department did not consider the beet selection hud been made among the candidates, and tbs Minister could not approve Mr iNchcrncy said that. Miss Griffith* was appointed by a majority of eight to two, after careful consideration of the testimonials of six candidates, yet immediately after the selection wa« announced, Miss McLean came to Auckland and interviewed members of the Board, urging them to appoint another candidate with a longer experience as charge nurse It was further stated that Miss McLeaa said she was acting under instructions from Dr. Valintine. The chairman stated that the Minister had the power ot veto over the appointment for 2! daysouly. The Board marked that -Miss Griffith* be appointed to the po-ifiou at the expiration of 21 days (Eridav next) from th« date ol her nomination by the Board.
