SIGNIFICANT VOTE AT DUNEDIN

(Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, July 4. Sir Janies Carroll addressed a large gathering of citizens this evening and received an enthusiastic, reception. He dealt generally with the assertions of the Opposition, replying to statements made by Mr Massey at Hastings, and added that the Opposition had never put forward a constructive, policy. It had all been destructive. Sir James asked why was the phrase “Maori landlordism" used? Was there any difl'crenco between (hat and Pakeha landlordism? If they didn’t want the former, why, he asked, did they want the latter? The phrase was used to stir up prejudice in the minds of white people against the Maori people Sir James was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence in the present administration. DUNEDIN. July 5, At the close of the public meeting here Die following resolution was carried unanimously : That this meeting of Dunedin citizens thanks the Hons. Carroll and Ngata for their able and interesting addresses on the native land question and other political subjects, ami also desires to express its confidence in the Ministry of which they arc members. The proposers were Mr Haxnol (Mayor of Roslyn) ami Mr Crawford Anderson '(farmer, of Clntha).
