WAITOTARA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tile usual monthly meeting of the AA’aitotara County Council was hold yesterday. Present—Crs. W. Ritchie (chairman), IF Ross, (i. Mitchell, \V. Morrison, G. Russell, 8. Handley, J. Dempsey, AY. Connor. ACCOUNTS.—Accounts amounting to £449 -is 9d were passed for payment. RATE -Notice was given of intention to strike a general rate of jd in the £ on all rateable property in the Brunswick, AA'e.stmere, Tokomaru, and AA'aitotara ridings. HANDLEY’S ROAD.—Messrs AVatt and Cohen wrote re legislation of Handley's Road, stating that the plans had teen sent to the Survey Department, with a request that the road he legalised, and that they were awaiting a reply from the Department. SPRINGVALE ROAD—Messrs AA r att and Cohen wrote re the width of Spriugvale Road, stating that a search of titles showed that the road should be a chain wide, but that some former owners of the land had only given over a half-chain strip to the Council.—lt was resolved to order a survey of the road. CONFERENCE.—-It was resolved to forward. ,£3 3s, annul subscription to the Counties Association, and that the Chairman represent the Council at the Association’s conference. TIMBER RATES.—The Railway Department wrote regretting that it could not comply with the request to reduce the rate on imported hardwood for use by Count}’ Councils, TF TUHI.—In reference to a request Hint properties in the Te Tula district should he re-valued, the 'Valuation Department wrote that if the Council would supply the names ot those who had cr-eled buildings since 1909, the Department would have Hie valuations revised. TROUGH.—Mr AA'. Bruce waited on the Council, and asked that a public drinking trough for horses be installed at Kai Iwi. —lt was resolved to put in a trongii in a suitable place, subject to the lotoiigh giving Hie water. HIPANGO PARK.—It was resolved to support the Chamber of Commerce’s application to the Government to have a road laid off through Hipango Park. UPOKONGARO FERRY—It was resolved to contribute 10s a week towards the wages of f lie Upokongaro ferryman,/ frt in last meeting of the Council till such time as the new punt is completed. FOREMAN’S REPORT.—The foumr.n reported that the roads generally wire in good order. He went on at considerable length to indicate various improvements considered necessary, in the way of reducing gradients, and introducing mure up-to-date apparatus, which might necessitate a loan —Crs. Ro.-s and Morrison approved of the foreman’s suggestions, and though! if the position wore thoroughly explained to the ratepayers the latter would sanction th« loan.—A committee consisting of the. Chairman, Crs. Connor, Morrison. Mitchell, and Ross iva.s set up to go into the matter, and formulate a scheme lor consideration at a later meeting, and to lay before ratepayers. GRANT.—It was resolved to apply to the Government for a grant bf =£3oo towards the Upper Kai Iwi bridge (at Murray and Hunter's).
