The Arbitration Court's award in the carpenters’ dispute provides tor a week* work of 1.) hours and a minimum wage of Is ltd per hour. Piecework is prohibited, except in respect of stair-building. The Union sought, to obtain K) honru per week, and a minimum of Is 8d per hour. Most of the terms in the award are. however, bawd 011 the provisions ot the last award. ANOTHER CASE. WELIJNCTON, July IS. In a lest ease brought by the Inspector of Awards against a local firm of grocers for keeping their premises open 011 Wednesday, the day of the statutory holiday in a week in which there was another holiday, judgment was given for defendants with costs. The defendants worked their assistants on Wednesday, 31st May. The anniversary of the birthday of the King was on Saturday of the same week, and the defendants gave their assistants a holiday that day. The question at issue was whether, in the circumstances, the defendants were guilty of a breach of the award.
