The Victorian Attorney-General has noified the New South Wales Premier of Victoria’s intention to rlairn the Riverina. 'the claim reached Sydney on Saturday, the day whereon expired the ()0 years' term within which the alleged appeal against the validity of the present boundary is permissible. It is understood that the action of the Victorian Government, which is to be followed by proceedings in the High Court, is an outcome of a discovery made by the Victorian law authorities during a search of (he records. The discovery consists of a letter written by Sir ’lliomas Mitchell, then SurveyorGeneral, at the time of tho separation of New South Wales from Victoria, warning the authorities that if tile llnmc River, the prewont boundary, was fixed upon against the facts of the ease, and against tile intention of (lie imperial Parliament, trouble was sure to ensue, lie oven predicted a civil war. It is claimed that this letter was completely ignored in fixing the boundaries.
