CANADIAN-AMERICAN BOUNDARY. Necessity for Fresh Delimitation. Revival of an Old Dispute. VANCOUVER, June 30. To prove that the. boundary line between Canada and the United States was not fixed according to the award made by the Emperor ot Germany in the Sail Juan Question is the task upon which a party of British engineers has just entered. The object of the survey is to show that if the delimitation had boon made correctly made many small islands and a largo portion of San Juan itself would have become British territory. The triangulation has already begun and upon the data secured hi- the experts now engaged in the work will be based a claim for the cession of the territory in question, which is the key to the salmon fishing industry of Puget Sound, and which, if coded, will give Canada complete control of an industry worth £3,000,000 annually. The salmon fisheries dispute between Canada and the United States, which has remained undecided for several years, is believed to underlie the now movementThe San Juan Question was a dispute concerning the possession of the San Juan Islands in the Gulf of Georgia, south-east of Vancouver, which arose, through different interpretations of the treaty of 18-16. They were occupied jointly by British and American garrisons in 1859. By the treaty of 1871 between Great Britain and the United States, which provided for the settlement of the Alabama claims and of the boundaries and fisheries disputes, the question was referred to the arbitration of the German Emperor, who decided in favour of the United States.
