It is semi-officially announced that at the request of the Germai} firms interested in Southern Morocco, and with the view to safeguarding the lives and property of Germans and German proteges, that the gunboat Panther, now in Moroccan waters, has been ordered to proceed to Agadir. The Potters have been notified, and an an intimation has been conveyed to the Moroccan Government that the step does not imply any unfriendly intention towards Morocco. LONDON, July 2. It is officially reported that German troops have landed at Ai/.ila'. PARIS, July 2. The Gorman Ambassador has informed M. Deselves, Minister for Foreign Affairs, ol the despatch of a gunboat, owing to agitation in the Agadir district, to convey assistance and relief if needed. He added that the vessel would withdraw ns soon as tranquility was restored. He hoped that the measure would in nowise modify the relations between Franco and Germany. ‘ , TANGIER, July 2. Germany notifies the occupying of the Agadir hinterland. GERMAN TROOPS DISEMBARK. A Painful Surprise. Received July 2, 8.5 a.ra. MADRID. July ? An official despatch states that SOU Gorman troops have disembarked at Agadir. Received July 2, 8.5 a.in. PARIS July 2. M. Deselvcs, Minister for Foreign Affairs, informed Baron Yon Scboen, the German Ambassador in France, that public opinion would be gainfully surprised at Germany’s action in Morocco. He regrotred that any obstacle should be placed in the way of friendly conversations desired by both countries concerning Morocco. M. Deaelves later received M. Jules Gambon, the French Ambassador at Berlin. who was also greatly surprised at Germany's action, describing it as totally unexpected. GERMANY’S INTERVENTION. A Direct Challenge to France. Received July 3, 9.5 a.m. LONDON. July 2. The Observer notes that Arzilla is within the Spanish sphere, and the occupation of Agadir is a direct challenge to France. “A BOLT FROM THE BLUE.” PARIS. July 2. Within an hour of the semi-official announcement that the Franeo-Spanish difference respecting Morocco had been settled the German intervention came as a bolt from the blue. GERMAN PAPER’S EXPLANATION. Received July 3, 9.45 a.m. BERLIN, July 2. The Koclnische Zeitung states that large cultivated tracts in the vicinity of Agadir and far into the hinterland belong to German firms. The property of one alone equals iu size the principality. Another firm employs 120, including GO commercial agents, who are German proteges. Gorman trade in Southern Morocco has latterly greatly expanded. The bulk of such goods, though appearing in the statistics as British, are imported and exported by Gorman firms, via England. 'The paper adds that Germany is also considerably interested iu mining in the hinterland.
