PECULIAR FATALITY.
MAORI WOMAN DROWNED. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. July 1. A Maori woman named More Tcrci, aged 41 years, man-ied, met her death under peculiar circumstances at Tanmutu, Lake Ellesmere, yesterday. Operations for letting out the surplus waters of the lake v.pro in progress, and a strong scour was i mining through the culvert. The woman intended to cross the culvert, but the bank gave way, and she was sucked down into a deep bole, and suffocated with sand and water. It took a gang of men three hours to recover her body.
