Lieutenant F.. C. Home, tho new Area Infantry Adjutant, and Staff-Sergt-Major Walker, arrived in Wanganui yesterday to take up their duties in connection witii the enrolling, etc., of Territorials. Their headquarters will be the Drill Hall. A pleasant little function took place at the last evening, when Mr. Frank Brewin, who has resigned the position of brewer and manager of the bottling department, was presented' with a handsome silver cake dish and a fish knife and fork. Mr. A If. Gibbons, in making the presentation on behalf of the ‘employees, said he voiced the sentiments of all present in expressing regret at the fact that Mr. Brewin was leaving the company’s employ. Daring the four and a half years be had been in charge, lie had given every satisfaction to all concerned, and the best of feelings had existed amongst the members of the staff. He read a copy of a letter sent to Mr.Brewin expressing thp firm’s regret that he had decided to leave their employ, and stating that they would have been glad to have retained his services. Mr. Gibbons thep handed Mr. Brewin a cheque on behalf of the firm. The healths of Mr. and Mrs. Brewin and Mr. Alf. Brewin, who has also severed his connection with the company, was then drunk, and tho proceedings terminated. •Air E. J. Chatwin was entertained at the Cosmopolitan Club last evening, and presented with a travelling rug ou behalf of the members by the president, Mr G. M. Gardener. Mr Chatwin is about t:> leave Wanganui for Wellington, and the chairman said this opportunity was taken to convey to him an expression of the esteem in which he had been held during Ms 15 years of membership. He had been a valuable member, and the club was sorry to lose him. At noon to-day Mr Chatwin was formally farewelled at Willis’s, where be has been employed for many years as foreman. He was presented with a cheque from the firm, a portmanteau, a gladstone bag. a silver-mounted umbrella, and two sets of pipes from the employees. Mr Poynler and Mr Alf. Willis made the present at Kins. Mr F. C. l»>rrison, editor of the Wanganui Collegiate School ionrnal, “The Collegian.” waited on Mr Chatwin to-day and presented him with a patent silver razor with a .solid silver case, and in doing so thanked' him, on behalf of those connected with the journal (published at Willis's), for the valuable assistance he had always rendered to the successive editors.
