Gibson, hon. secretary of the garden fete, committee, en- ; closing a cheque for .£398. —A hearty vote of thanks to Mr Gibson and all the workers for the splendid result of the fete was 1 carried. . i The pretty wire-work arch presented by Mr Good was donated to the Virginia Lake ) reserve; a letter of thanks to he sent to Mr ; Good. ’ A motion was carried expressing regret i at the loss of the serices of Mr Lockhart, who is leaving Wanganui, a letter to he sent to him conveying the committee’s apI preciation of the help he has given the Society from its/very, start. To push ahead with the clearing of the I willows in Lairdh Park, a sum of <£lo was t voted for labour. , . . The hon. secretary, Wanganui East branch, wrote enclosing a plan of work in i hand. As a part of this was beyond what could reasonably be expected from working bees, a sum not to-exceed £25 was i voted for ploughing and digging, as sugi gestsd in the plan, the work to he performI ed by contract, and accounts sent in to the parent Society. * The secretary reported that the trees ordered from Japan had'arrived in spleiii did condition, and half had gone to St. John’s Hill and half to Wanganui East, He also reported that Mr Maiden, the director of the Sydney Botanical Gardens, had sent 40 varieties of seeds of Australian trees. The kindly, spirit shown by the curator of - the Melbourne Botanical Garden and the directoß of, the Sydney , gardens in forwarding seeds to the Wanganui Society,’ was greatly appreciated. : Mr Stewart handed in a plan, of the. car-' riuge drive around Virginia Lake, and pointed out that the Borough Council resolved some considerable time ago to push ahead with this work. The sectetary wa s asked to write to the Town Clerk enclosing the plan, and refer to the' resolution of the Council re pushing on with'the work. The annual meeting was fixed for April 28th at the Borough Council Chambers, at 8 p.m.
