MISDIRECTED ENERGY.
DUNEDIN, April 26. The Otago Daily Times, in a leading article on misdirected energy, says; “The rider who essayed to break the cycling record for the Chrisfchurch-Dunediu journey this week would probably have been successful bud he not met with a serious accident. His pluck and endurin leaving the. route behind him as lie did until ho was placed hors do combat can admire, but we cannot but deplore the waste of such qualities in the pursuit of so poor a purpose. Taking into consideration the important fact that the >pccd at which be and his pacers travelled over the roads during a part of their journey, must have constituted them a distinct menace to traffic, we can only regard them as participating in a performance not only foolish but dangerous to the public. The sequel of Wednesday’s attempt amply justifies this opinion, dictated by common sense, and while all sympathy will be accorded to the injured cyclist, we hope that his experience will be accepted' as seasonable warning by others infected by the mania.” &
