WELLINGTON FIRES.
VALUABLE DRAUGHT HORSES PERISH. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 27. A fire occurred this morning in Hopper Street, in premises occupied l by Hansen (plumber) and C. and A. A:!ii ~ timber hardware merchants as a stable. The ire had a, strong' hold when the brigade arrived. Four valuable draught horses perished. The building was gutted, and dray damaged beyond repair. A quantity of harness was destroyed. The horses were worth over £l2O.
Hanson’s shop, including his tools, was absolutely burnt. The contents were minsured, as were Odlin’s. The building was the property of Mr Odlin, and was insured in the Alliance for £IOO. Hanlon’s loss is estimated at £250. A fire also broke out in. a six-roomed house at Newtown, owned and occupied by Jas. Saunders. Severe damage was iufferod in the kitchen, scullery, bathmom and dining-room. The front portion was affected by heat/ smoke, and water. The house was insured for £SOO and the furniture for £250.
