WAVERLEY NOTES.

—: - ♦ : / (From Our Own Correspondent). WAVER LEY, January 24. I regret to report that yesterday \;r D. Noake liad the misfortune to hreak his eg through the horse he was riding falling on him. Mr Noake has been particularly unfortunate as far as-accidents arc •oncerned, he having met with several during the last 12 months, and much sympathy is extended to him. Work in connection with the formation of new roads in the hack blocks of this listrict is practically at a standstill. Although a large sum has been voted for this purpose, yet the money is not yet available. It is proposed to hold a swimming carrival here shortly, and a committee headid by Mr Fred Johnston have the matter in hand. I learn that Mr T. E. Wilson, who has .lot been cloying the best of health lately, intends shortly taking his departure :or the Argentine. On Saturday (Anniversary Day), Waverey looked more like London instead of it tic Waverley. The Kilties' Band marched the bowlers to the green with their wives and friends. It was very cheerful, what with bowling, tennis, and croquet. Then the Kilties marched to the train in the evening with loud cheers. Then cam? word of Crucinella's great win, as a result af which I understand Waverley will be benefited by over .£1111)0. Several "Waverley people' went to Wellington to see the race, which I should say would be very exciting at the finish. Knowing the great winner to be a Waverley horse, much pride is taken in the training of Mr M. Gardiner, as he has been very successful, and has won golden opinions. I hear the Rev. Mr Mclvor is suffering from influenza, lie was unable to preach on Sunday, and the services were taken by Mr Andrews, of Wanganui. Mr B. T. Bennett's soda-water factory is now completed, and he expects to start about the 26th of this month. The Presbyterian Sunday school held their annual picnic on Anniversary Da v. in grounds kindly lent by Mr H. Middleton.
