HAYWARD'S PICTURES

A large audience greeted the change of programme at the Opera House la&t evening. The pictures, which only arrived a couple of days ago direct from West's, Sydney, proved to be an excellent lot, and prolonged applause showed the audience's appreciation of the best' of them. The programme will be reS sated to-night. Owing to the Opera ouse being engaged on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next, this will ba the last opportunity of seeing these particular pictures here, as another change of- programme will be presented on Friday. The "Is It You?" competition introduced by Mr Hayward, in which snapshots of local residents were taken by his operator were thrown an. the screen. If any member of the audience happen to have their picture screened the marfager gives a prize of 5s for every photograph claimed in this competition.

The box plan of the Wanganui Orchestral Society's Concert on Wednesday, the Bth inst., opens on Monday, 6th inst., at 8 a.m., at Messrs H. I. Jones and Sons'.

Holders' of invitations to the concert by Miss- Lillian White and pupils are reminded that it will be held in St. Paul's Hall on Monday evening, at 8 o'clock.

The Westmere Sunday School celebrated its anniversary • last Thursday evening with a tea meeting and concert, whicn was held in a large marquee on Mr Bar. rett's property. An excellent programme had been arranged by Mrs R. Howe, assisted by Miss Imrie, and the manner in which the children, performed reflected great credit on the above ladies. After an appetising tea which was presided over by the lady friends of the school, the following programme was given : — Pianoforte duet, Misses Imrie and May Allan ; hymn, school children; prayer, Rev. Wilson; fan song, scholars ; dialogue, boys and girls ; pansy song, Mieses Collier, Clinton, Livingstone, and Hargart; stocking menders, girls; dialogue, Misses Collier and D. Clinton; song, Miss Flossie Cannons; dialogue, girls; part song (musical housewives), girls; vocal quartette, Misses Barrett (2), Burrett, and Allan. During the evening speeches were made by the Rev. Wilson, and Messrs Carrad and Christie. The cbair was occupied by Mr R. Howe.

On Thursday week, 16th December, the pupils attending the Sacred Heart Convent School will give their annual entertainment in the Opera House. The prices of admission will be 2s and Is, and a. varied programme, comprising: vocal and instrumental music, drills, dances, dialogues, etc., will be presented.

A meeting of the Employers' Association will be held on Wednesday evening, when several important matters will be discussed.

The Gonville Hall was packed to the doora last evening on the occasion of the entertainment given by the children in aid of the School Prize Fund. No less than 25 items were set down on the programme, including songs, recitations, choruses, drill, dialogue, and other interesting numbers. The children, especially the little ones, acquitted themselves well, and merited the hearty applause which greeted their efforts. Mr E. J. Chatwin presided, and at the close of the concert a hearty vote of thanks, on the motion of Mr Webb-Jones, was accorded the teachers and the performers. The prize fund should benefit materially as a result of the entertainment.
