CORRESPONDENCE.

The Reduction in the Price of Meat.

TO THI KDITOK,

Sir, — In Tucker Bros.' advertisement of last evening they blame the Wanganui Meat Company for lowering prices without first notifying the association. I presume by this that there has been an asociation of butchers who have fixed prices, which no doubt accounts for the high prices ruling lately. I can quite understand that Messrs Tucker Bros, are angry at the company for reducing prices, but I feel sure that consumers »vill hail the fact uith delight.: — I am, etc.,

WORKINGMAN

TO THE KDfTOR.

Sir, — I do not wish to be drawn into a newspaper controversy, but cannot, however, let the statement made by Messrs Tucker Bros, in their advertisement which appeared in your last issue go unchallenged. They state that the Wanganui Meat Company advertised a reduction in prices without notifying 'the association. This is contrary to fact, as before sending the advertisement to the "Herald" or reducing prices the com J pany wrote to the secretary of the Master Butchers' Association notifying him that they wer^ withdrawing from the arrangement and intended to act independently in future. Further, the writer personally told some of those interested, including one of the Messrs Tucker. As for the pastial price-list advertised by Tucker Bros., my company will be very pleased to supply at prices mentioned, and in some particulars considerably less. — I am, etc., C. M. CRESSWELL.

The Weather Bureau reports at noon: — Winds freshening, northerly strong to "ale, expect unsettled and cloudy weather, rain probable, glass fall, tides moderate sea moderate.

Good progress is being made with the reerection of the Bulls Town Hall, the framing of which is now up. The contract iF expected to be completed about the middle of January, when the new hall will be opened with a concert.

To-day's weather seemed to indicate that we have a hot summer ahead of us. Though very warm to-day, the weather however, was preferable to the muggines* )f the past few days, and a breeze in tho afternoon helped to somewhat cool the air ;
