AMALGAMATION.

With regard to the suburbs joining the Borough, Mr Battle hoped there would not be such another "mess up" as there was over Durietown. A committee' of which he was one was set up to' look" into the matter of boundaries, and it was agreed to take in Durietown and as far down as Putiki, to take in the land just behind Mr Gifford Marshall's Kouse._ It was not decided to take in the No. 2 Liiie nor that portion comiug along the fron? of the Red Lion, \thus leaving out tshe foreshore. Later on Cr Liffiton and himself were appointed to meet the Wanganui County Council, the Eastbrook Borpijgh Council, and the Harbour Board re the repairs to the bridge and the protection of the River Bank at Taylorville, and it - was agreed that the chairman of the County Council should convene a meeting or" the bodies interested for the purpose of- arriving at an agreement as to the percentage of cost to be borne by each body. -T.he matter hung fire for some time, arifiPj' on inquiring why the meeting was not called, the chairman of the County Council informed him thai Durietown would soon be a part of the Borough, and then the Council, being the governing body, would have to take the initiative. Durietown was gazetted as part of the Borough, but when the plan was forthcoming it was' found that the foreshore was included. " Tlie boundaries were not as the Council understood they were to be. Now the boundaries were altered, and the advice of a, lawyer was lhat Durietown was not part of the Borough.
