STREETS

Our streets 'were not in so good a condition as they might be. It would have been folly to do anything to them when the trams were under way, but it should now be the first duty of the Council to put them in order. Some of the gutters outside the business area were neglected, and these should be seen to, so that pople would not have to walk through grass to get into their houses. As to Tatipo Quay, which bore so heavy a traffic, the metal should' be screened and broken to make a good job of it. He was strongly opposed to a temporary job being done there out of loan. All the good roads at Home and on the Continent had a solid foundation, and if we did not have the same we could not have a good surface .for our roads. The work of tarring the footpaths had ben. placed on the estimates each year, but had not always been carried out
