LAWN TENNIS.
WANGANUI CLUB.
On Saturday last play was resumed after a fortnight's spell owing to the broken weather and the heavy condition of the lawns. In the ladies' handicap singles Miss O. Stanford beat Miss R. Hawken by 7 — i. The winner owes 15 and on Wednesday met Miss Cave (who owes 30) in the final, and a very closely contested match resulted, both players playing Splendid lawn tennis. Miss Stanford led to five all, when Miss Cave came to the fore, annexing the next two games after deuce had been scored several times.
In the men's handicap singles Dr Wall (scratch) beat Ritchie (owe two-sixths of 15), and Wyman (owe 15£) defeated Hutton (owe 15) by 9- — 5. Dr Wall now plays Wyman in the semi-final, and the winner meet E. B. Davies (owe 15£) for the final.
