NOTES BY "ACHILLES."
A London cable states that The Lawyer was found dead in his box on the evening after running third in the Liverpool Grand National.
The Soult-Sprite colt for which tho owner of Star Rose paid ,£SOO was on the ground being ridden at the recent Taranaki meeting. He is a nice colt in most respects, and should come to hand early. Star Rose, the N.Z. Cup winner of 1906 cut a sorry figure in both hurdle races at New Plymouth, finishing 200 yards behind the last of the other contestants with 9.0 on his back. How the mighty have fallen ! Mr. J. D. Mitchell, of Manaia, had the misfortune to slip down the steps of the Stewards' stand on the New Plymouth course on Thursday last, and break the small bone in the left ankle. It will be some Aveeks before he is able to get about again.
