I The Feilding Show opened to-day with I fine wearier and a good attendance. The | exhibits of live stock were not so good as last year, owing to the bad season. 'Ihe maiden hunters' competition was won by Strawbridge's Carpenter, Sansons Mona second. Miss Whittaker's pony mare and foal took first prize. Sanson's Nancy took the prize for the mare most suitable for breeding hacks. Jas. Bull took the prize for the best pair of harness horses, and F. H. Dsmar, with Kalula, was first for the mare most suitable for breeding carriage horses. In draughts the first place was secured by Houlfc and Sons, Bennett Bros., and G. Perry. In dairy cattle, W. P. Harre took first for dairy cow, any breed. The prizes for heifers were taken by S. R. Lancaster, S. Standen, and C. C. Rensemann. In .pedigree cattle, E. Short took first for Hereford cow and heifer, and G. Wheeler first' for bull. The Ayrshire prizes were taken by S. R. Lancaster. S. Standen, and C. C. Bensemann. In Jerseys S. R. Lancaster and C. Dermer were first for heifers and cow. Mrs M. A. Kirton took first for bull. In fat cattle E. Short and W. Mills divided first prize. In fal sheep W. Reid, K. W. Dalrymple, F. S. Mcßae, and E. Short were the most successful exhibitors. In fat lambs A. F. Fitzherbert, J. Power, F. S. Mcßae, C. ilillen, W. Reid, and J. Knight divided the prizes. Knight took the gold medal for two fat lambs most suitable for freezing. In the farmers' classes the Romneys' prize was divided between W. G. Pearce. J. Knight, W. E. Baker, Koberstein, and W. G. Aiken. For Lincolns J. W. Bradley took most prizes. For purebred sheep M. Voes, W. G. Pearce, J. Knight, and F. Kensington took first for Romneys; W. Gadsby took four firsts for Linwlns. P. Neilson and Slack Bros, took firsts for Border Leicesters; S. R. Lancaster five firsts for English Leicesters ; Lancaster, Short, and Knight firsts for Southdowns. For pigs, H. Webster took first for pig most suitable for factory bac^n; Slack Bros., E. White, and E. C. Bensemann dividing firsts lof purebreds. For butter for export the Rangitikei Dairy Company (93.5 •points) were first, Awahuri Dairy Company (93) second, Cheltenham Dairy Company (92.5) third.
