FIRE INSURANCE PREMIUMS.

MASTERTON, February 4. The Wairarapa Age has been informed on good authority that the Fire Insurance Companies have 'practically decided to increase the rates of insurance in connection with all. classes of risks, and that there is good reason to believe that the State Fire Insurance Department is prepared to raise its rates in accordance with increases proposed by the private companies and generally to act in conformity with its business rivals.

AUCKLAND, February 4

The local managers of the insurance companies, when seen by a Press representative this morning, disclaimed any knowledge of a general increase in rates, and profess to be at a loss to understand the report emanating from Masterton.
