WELLINGTON, October 9.

The Appeal Court to-day dealt w^th the Kex v Joi-n Rowan casj, reserved by Mr Justice Cooper. The prisoner was a bankrupt charged with quitting New Zealand within a year of his bankruptcy and taking pioperty with him to the value of Jfc2o or upwards, which should have been divided amongst the creditors. The point was raised that there was no evidence that ho took with him goods of the value mentioned, but Mr Justice Cooper refused to withdraw the case from the jur" intimating that if Rowan were found guilty he would reserve the point for the Court of Appeal. The prisoner was convicted on the second count, and sentence was postponed pending the decision of the Court.

In Rowan's case the conviction was affirmed by the Court of Appeal without calling on the Crown to reply.
