Mining Accident.
Preat Association.— Telegraph.— Copyright. LONDON, October 20. The Daily Mail's Johannesburg correspondent states that owing to a rope in the Simmir East mine breaking, a cage containing thirty Chinese fell a thousand feet. (Far United Press Association). GRETMOUTH, October 20. A man named William Walker, of Picton, who was injured by being knocked over by a truck on the Greymouth Wharf on September 7th, died in the Hospital last .night. It is not yet decided whether an inquest will be necessary. WELLINGTON, October 20. At the inquest to-day concerning the death of John Duncan, formerly wharf labourer, who died from the effects of injuries caused by being run over by a tramcar, the evidence showed that the deceased was feeble and mentally unstable. He had suddenly stepped on to the track in front of an approaching car. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death, no blame being attached to the motorman. AUCKLAND, October 21. A man named William Moore, while removing an axle-box which had become overheated from a timber waggon at Huntly railway station, was rendered unconscious by the fumes of oil and waßte. He died some hours after the occurrence, it is believed from heart disease, accelerated by the accident.
