AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS ETC.

CITY BAND OPEN-AIR CONCERT.

The City Band gave their first open-air concert for the season last evening, when they rendered a choice programme of music at the upper end of Bell Street. There was a very large number of residents present, and the playing of the Band was much appreciated. It is generally recognised that the upper end of the town has been' neglected as far as band performances are concerned, aud one gentleman, in complimenting and thanking the band last evening, said that although he had lived at that end of the town for over nine years, that was the first occasion he could remember a band outside the Salvation Army visiting their part. The City Band is determined that it will not be their fault if there is not an improvement. The next concert will take place in a fortnight's time, when the band will play at Glasgow and Halswell Streets, and later on in the evening at Barrack Street. For the convenience of residents at Castlecliff, Gonville, etc., who intend patronising Miss Tittell Bruno at the Opera- House on Saturday evening, a special train will leave the Castlecliff Company's town station at the conclusion of the performance.
