Gisborne Settlors' Losses.
GISBOENE, July 18. The heaviest losers at Makauri are G. Barron, 1200 cheep, and Thomas, market gardener, sheep and vegetables valued at £450. There are a number of smaller losses.
Tho Waerengaahika settlers who suffered mo9t were Jones Bros., who lost a number of sheep and cattle, a fine crop of maize, and a threshing machine. A number of others lost from 50 to 100 sheep each. F. Teitjer lost his maize crop. The roads are now open to hor9e traffic. A butcher's cart came to grief this morning at Kspie's corner, the driver being swept overboard acd washed against a tenee.
When the flood rose again last night, a wittier named Harper, who was living alone, was rescued from the" top of a bo\ on a sofa in his houee. There is silt a foot deep in his house this morning, and this r.pplies to many other residences. McCullogh, the largest milk supplier to the factory, saved all hia cows, being engaged rescuing them till this morning. TV damage on the railway consists of the approaches to three bridges being washed away, and two miles of ballastidg washed out* Forty men are at work elfecting repairs, and are expected to restore communication in a week or ten days.
