LONDON, June. 19.
At the instance of Lady Aberdeen, Mrs James Bryce, and other educated women, a conference wa6 held in London to demonstrate the openings the colonies presented for educated trained women fitted to undertake lighter kinds of agricultural work, such as fruit preserving and bottling, poultry and bee-keeping, dairying, or experts in domestic work.
Sir John Cockburn, presiding, stated that Canada and Australia had 280,000 more men than women, and there was plenty of scope in Australia for women trained to any definite employment except clerical.
Mr B. R. Wise said there was an enormous demand for women willing to e"ngage in domestic and agricultural pursuits.
Mr Napior stated that 5400 Avomen were needed in New Zealand, where special facilities were given to thc«o qualified to engage in fruit-growing.
Sir Horace Tozer declared that fruitgrowing afforded profitable openings in Queensland.
