A NEW COMET.
The hon. director of the Wanganui Observatory reports as follows: — The new comet discovered by M. Giacobini at Nice last December has now become visible in our latitudes. It was picked up here last evening in right ascension Ohr lmin 15sec, south declination 18deg 36min 30eec. Its coma is about equal to a star of the fifth magnitude, and its tail in the 9i-inch refractor could be traced to about* 15 minutes of arc. Its bearing is about W.S.W. at from 8.3 ) to 9 p.m., and it may be seen as a faint object with a good pair of field-glasses. The comet sets 'shortly after 9 p.m.
