ROWING.

W.R.C. TRIAL FOURS. BY "SLIDE." The semi-finals in . connection with the above contests were rowed off last night, when the crews stroked by E. Day "and G. Dodgshun gained victories over F. Banks and E. McDonald respectively. G. Dodgshun's crew,, formerly Anderson's (who is indisposed), was stroked by the former, while T. T. Bell occupied No. 3 seat owing to the indisposition of B. C. Smith. Dodgshun and Mac Donald were the. first to work, Starter James effecting a splendid start. The former immediately forged to the front, and maintained a lead of three-quarters of a length to the stone groyne. Mac Donald here made an effort to reduce the gap, and succeeded in closing up a little, but Dodgshun drew away again in tho stretch to the Baths, where he had a length's lead, which he held to the finish. The winners are to be commended upon their win, especially stroke, who rowed a fine race notwithstanding that it was his first appearance with the crew Following on the former event, Day and Banks lined up, Acting-starter Percy Lewis getting them away well together. Neither had much adavantage until the groyne was reached, when Day appeared in the lead. At Guyton Street tho lead was increased to a length, the Baths viewing them in the same position. In the final 100" yards, however, Banks picked up slightly, Day finishing three-quarters of a length to the good. To-night tho final will be rowed between Day and Dodgshun. From the commencement my fancy has been for the former, and I still pin my faith to him, although a win for Dodgshun would in no way surprise me. Entries for the Trial Pairs close at the shed on Saturday. This competition ia open to all active members who have not been selected in regatta crews.
