OTAGO DEFEATS SOUTHLAND.

A PLATER SERIOUSLY HURT.

DUNEDIN, August 26. The return match, Southland v. Otago, was played to-day in beautiful weather, before about five thousand spectators. The game resulted in a win for Otago by 11 points to 3. Southland, in the first spell, scored a try by Morton crossing the line. Otago, in the second spell, scored three tries, the scorers being Mclntyre, Bennett, and Gilray. One was converted. W. Bailey, one of the Otago playerß, .met with a seriou|s accident-, and there is little " hope of his recovery. In a scramble Bailey was turned over, and two men fell on top of him. His spine was c injured. It is intended to use the X "rays with the hope of finding the injury, and possibly an operation may follow.
