DEFEATED' BY CANTERBURY.
CHRISTCHURCH, August 26.
The match between Canterbury and the Australian team was played at Lancaster Park in fine weather, before a crowd of about 30CK). The game was well contested. Canterbury winning by 8 points to 3. The home team deserved their win, as they had the better of ,the play and, but for faulty passing, should have increased their score. The visitors at times showed dash, but lost some good chances by mistakes at critical times. For Canterbury, Gray scored two tries, one of which Fraser converted. For Axistralia, M. Smith scored. •
