TONGAN AFFAIRS.
Imperial Government Snubs the
King of Tonga:
(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 25. ,
Fiji papers contain particulars of th# visit of the High. Commissioner to King George of Tonga. Imthurn conveyed to King George the reply of the Imperial Government to the King's protest against the deportation of. Latekei, the late Premier of Tonga. Regret is expressed that the ' King of Tonga, even for a moment, thought of Hrpglri-ngr liin promise of January lttth, that under no circumstances can the . Imperial Government allow his promises to be broken, and that if these promises were broken the result would be the immediate deportation of the King of .Tonga himself, .but they believe, now that the wishes and intentions of the British Government are known, the promises made will be faithfully kept, and hope that the King of Tonga and his Ministers may long continue happily and peacefully to administer -the affairs of Tonga with tlie advice and under the protection of the British Government.
