The Gnthrie brings details of .an insurrection in^ South Borneo. • The Sultan of B.oni rebelled, and the Sultan of Gau supported him, the rising being caused through the Dutch imposing trading restrictions which the natives refused to , A Dutch force, including marines, totalling 4000, and assisted by four warships, proceeded against the natives. Two battles were, fought, in both of which the .Dutch were successful.

Fighting is still going on. The impression in Batavia is that the "Dutch will be successful in pitched v battles, but the natives keep retiring inland, and guerilla warfare is now carried on. In one battle it is stated that 250 -natives and- 14 Dutch were killed.
