(Per United Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, August 11.

The first of the seventeen. cases in which the defendants ar© alleged to hay© trespassed on the Riccarton Racecourse on April 24 last, was called on at the Magistrate's Court' to-day. Counsel for the prosecution asked for an adjournment till/^jhe 22nd, giving as on© reason for th© application that . the prosecution did not wish to prejudice th© defendants in view of the races next week. The adjournment was granted, but the Magistrate expressed the opinion that th© delay in bringing the cases on appeared to indicate that the Racing Club did not treat the charges as being of great moment.
