THE BUILDING TRADE.
' - (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, September 22. The Master Builders' Association opened its ' cpnference this morning. The most important subject to be dealt with is the conditions of contract. The president, Mr Holland (Auckland) gave an opening address, and referred to the- necessity oi combination, indicated they would have to discuss labour legislation, .which, in h# opinion, had gone far enough, and he affirmed that there is no necessity tor more inspectors as far as the building , trade is concerned. As to preference in labour, no good tradesman needed it. He aiprmed Jthat. the best tradesmen ' did *iot belong tp unions and would not join them. The ■ labour -laws' caused an increase of cost of material and wages. The test of the Arbitration Act would come when the reaction set in.
