Ten O'clock Closing.

WELLINGTON, September 22. The Wellington Licensing Committee declines to reconsider its decision that all hotels shall close at 10 o'clock. . INVERCARGILL, September 22. George Dempster, jun., was to-day fined .£SO and costs for selling liquor within the Mataura no-license area. The defence was that, the liquor was purchased for a social to Dempster, who was leaving the district, and that the owner made no profit. The Magistrate, Mr McCarthy, said he had no hesitation in saying that defendant's evidence was an insult to the intelligence of the /Magistrate, and would not impose on the credulity of a. Archibald Fotheringham, whose license for the Woodlands Hotel was refused at the annual meeting of the Awarua Committee, pleaded guilty to selling liquor, and was fined <£25 and costs.
