THE LATE MR DUIGAN.
We have received the following telegram from the Premier: — WELLINGTON, August 19. "The demise of my dear old friend, Mr J. Duigan, grieves me exceedingly, and brings vividly home the uncertainty of the sojourn here below. Our friendship extended over many years, and the void created will be hard to fill. One of the pleasures I ever had in visiting Wanganui is gone forever, the only consolation beings that the parting is only temporary, ' and one must live in hope of meeting again in the great hereafter. He was a kind parent, true friend, and man of sterling worth, and Mb place will be hard to fill. Wanganui has lost''an - able advocate. He * ' never spared himself in promoting the _... interest of the place or its » people, and I feel sure hia> splendid servicejs.jjv.er entitle him to be remembered as one of your best citizens. To his bereaved, relatives and to the people of Wanganui I tender my warmest' sympathy in the? irreparable - loss sustained. — R. J. Soddon." i We also received the folloVing • from Christchurch : — CHRISTCHURCH, August 19. "Convey to the staff our regret at the news of the decease of Mr Buigran. — Polson, Truth."
