At the sitting of the Newtown Licensing Committee to-day, Mr Atkinson; on behalf of a large number of petitioners, claimed that' the Committee had no right to issue licenses. Argument is proceeding. • • GISBORNE, June 5. The Licensing Cdmmittee reduced the hour t>£- closing- from 11 to 10. An additional wholesale license was granted to L. D. Several Coromandel applications were adjourned owing to repairs not being completed.
