ALIEN RESTRICTION.
A Protest from Japan. Press Association— Telegraph-^Copyright Received November 23, 10.55 a.m. MELBOURNE, November 23= Mr Barton laid on the table corre-. spondence 'relating to the protest of Japan against alien restriction. ' The Japanese Ambassador in London- objected to the educational; test as a means of discrimination, and requested that the Japanese should be placed on the same footing as the European, faces/ The Hon. J." Chamberlain pointed out that in 1897 Japan asked that Australian restriction should follow on the lines of the Natal Act, and he -believed this was done in the Federal Bill. He did not think the Imperial Government in the position would suggest any modification.
